Founders Poem
Eleven of them sat around to think
We're all so close, but still missing a link
Let's be sisters,
With symbols, a purpose and a final pact
And with that last thought-
AGD went from fiction to fact!

We'll pledge ourselves to red, buff & green
And years from now - our letters will be seen!
You'll be our first founder, MARGUERITE SHEPARD
You're smart and keen and quick as a leopard.

Now who will be the first editor of the AGD Quarterly?
We're all so talented and diverse you see,
It's obvious who will be our first pick
You're the one ESTELLE SHEPARD BESWICK!

The very first President will receive great praise
We'll pick this girl with a fair hand raise.
Who shall it be of these women before us?
No other than- JENNIE TITUS SMITH MORRIS.

Now who will help write our history in a few years?
There was some talking, mumbling and even some cheers
Quiet down ladies, we still have lots of work
Suddenly, GEORGIA DICKOVER stood up-
I'll do it with pride, she said with a smirk!

Who will compose the lyrics for the chapter songs?
We clearly know where that job belongs.
Her heart is full of goodness; she lives around the block,
It's none other than EDITH MACCONNEL HICKOK!

Now before each meeting we'll all partake in ritual
This will make our actions easy to remember and soon habitual.
Our singer and pianist will be FLORA KNIGHT MAYER.
She said she'd do it and we don't have to pay her!

Alpha Gamma Delta's first missionary?
Who on Earth should be pick to be?
People called out, voting for MARY LOUISE SNIDER.
Timidly she nodded in acceptance and continued to sip her cider.

Now what shall we have you do, GRACE MOSHER HARTER?
I know, I know- she can be our party starter.
On the weekends, we'll gather at her place
And discuss the week's agenda hat we'll all have to face.

What shall you do, ETHEL BROWN DISTIN?
You're kind and caring and know how to listen.
You shall be President number two,
For your good leadership qualities and all that you do!

And GEORGIA OTIS CHIPMAN, what job do you want to start?
Business manager of The Quarterly- I'll take that part!
I'll do my very best; I would not lie,
With AGD- I'll live and die!

We'll need armorial bearings and a purpose, of course.
For this position, we'll need a dependable source!
They heard a shout from EMILY HELEN BUTTERFIELD, a very brilliant girl.
Please let me do it, let me give it a whirl!

And with positions assigned and the framework designed,
ALPHA GAMMA DELTA was founded!
