The initiation into Delta Sigma Theta in May, 1970 was the culmination
of more than a year of
effort to establish the first African-American sorority on the EKU campus.
At that time, the
university required that all Greeks function as a local organization for
one year before becoming
affiliated with a national sorority / fraternity. Our local organization,
Delta Theta, was
enthusiastically supported by EKU African American women and completed
several service
projects during the 1969-1970 academic year. Delta Theta was pictured in
the Greek
organizations section of the 1970 EKU year book. The chapter was housed
on the
sixth floor of Walters Hall and remained there until the mid-1980's.
Through their hard work and dilligence these women set a standard of excellence
which
continues to this day. Their dedication to public service and selfless
giving have set a benchmark
which we strive daily to obtain. These Devastating Seventeen lit
a torch of academic
excellence which shall be carried by all those whom are privilaged to become
members of the
ETA Rho chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
